ADA ? Lauren Briggs, senior at Knob Noster High School, Missouri, has been accepted to attend Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Mo., formerly University of Missouri-Rolla. She has been awarded the Trustee Scholarship, Women in Engineering, and a Missouri S&T Grant.

SANTA CLARA ? The name implies simplicity ? Ted. The position, however, is anything but. Derek Smith played the Ted linebacker spot last season, but his 2008 salary and age led to his release in February.

A 14-inning loss was too much to overcome for Ballard High School's softball team. The Bruins dropped a gut-wrenching 2-1 decision to Ryle in a marathon second-round game and then got eliminated from the State Tournament in a 5-1 loss to Christian County yesterday at Jack C. Fisher Park.
